Mentor Introduction

Who are we

Mentor was established some 6 years ago with the aim of being a facility for Men to get together and share with each other some time and experiences of life.

One of the most important lessons Jesus taught that we were to fellowship one with another and that Christians should meet and worship together. We try to do this at Mentor on a regular basis and often when we do meet we share time with each other over a meal. .

Notes on the Temptations of Christ

  • Jesus came as a man – He withheld His power and His rights to all honour, glory and praise, but He did not withhold His love.
  • Jesus came and stood in our place and the only difference between Jesus and us is that He knew no sin. If He had not been like us in every other way He could not have been our representative. So why did He go through the waters of baptism?
  • Jesus went through the ritual cleansing by which a man would enter the Priesthood. He did this to fulfil all righteousness (Mat 3:16) – He was cleansing the role of the Priesthood, and in doing so revealing what it should really be like.

Forgiveness

The following story from the book, ‘Miracle on the River Kwai, is an example of God at work, and reminds us of how Christ reached out to His enemies, even at Calvary. It reveals how people can forgive and even love their enemies. At the time of writing, the author (Ernest Gordon), was a prisoner who, along with many others, had suffered greatly at the hands of the Japanese.

Loving God, Loving Myself and Loving Others

Loving God, loving myself and loving others.

Luke 10: 25-37

In this paper we are going to look at how people accept, or do not accept themselves, and the images we can all project.  Before doing so, we look at the context to our reading, and make a comment on God’s command to love Him. As we go through the paper we will also see what love really is.

The Context.

Before our reading about the lawyer (Luke 10:1-18).
